Around 6,000 people are expected at this year’s Carols by Candlelight in Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda. Organised annually by the Gymea Baptist Church and supported by Sutherland Shire Council and the business sector, including PAYCE, the event will celebrate its 19th year of bringing Christmas cheer to the local community.

After moving the location to the bigger Seymour Shaw Park location last year to allow more attractions for children, including a petting zoo and themed craft activities, the organisers were thrilled with the increase in numbers and overall success of the new venue.

The traditional event is the biggest of its type in the Shire and once again will feature guest celebrities, free kids’ activities, food stalls, and to cap the night off a spectacular fireworks finale will light the sky.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, 13 December from 6.30pm, starting with loads of kids’ activities and then at 7.45pm the entertainment and carol singing gets into full swing.

Featured artists sure to keep the audience captivated include the very popular Colin Buchanan and Fatai from The Voice, backed by a professional group of musicians.

Colin needs no introduction to those attending past Carols by Candlelight and he is loved by a generation of children for his role on the ABC’s Play School. As an accomplished songwriter and singer he has also won nine Golden Guitars and released numerous albums.

Fatai began singing professionally at the age of seven and has been performing as a solo artist since 2009 and enjoys entertaining audiences at festival and community events. She won widespread acclaim with her appearances on The Voice in 2012 and more recently recorded her debut single, ‘Purple’.

PAYCE Managing Director, Brian Boyd said the Shire was renowned for its community spirit and it was a pleasure to support such a wonderful family event.

“We enjoy being part of the community and it’s a privilege to be associated with a range of Sutherland Shire events through the year, including the PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf and the PAYCE Cronulla Shark Island Swim, so we see firsthand the enthusiasm and community pride that exists throughout the Shire,” he said.

PAYCE General Manager, Dominic Sullivan welcomed the opportunity to join with the many supporting local businesses in giving something back to the community.

“Congratulations to everyone associated with organising the event and to the many volunteers who help make it a great success every year,” he said.

“Again this year, the Carols’ organisers have put together a great program of entertainment and fun that caters for all ages, with even more emphasis this year on attractions for the young ones and the young at heart.”
