Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Scott Lloyd last Friday turned the first sod on a $3.8 million public works project at the Royal Shores development at Ermington.
The project is part of a major development being undertaken by PAYCE and Sekisui House Australia, which includes 632 units on a 20,000 square metre site on River Road beside the Parramatta River.
Also attending the event were PAYCE’s General Manager, Dominic Sullivan and Jessica Lane and from Sekisui House Australia, its CEO and Managing Director, Toru Abe and Chief Financial Officer, Kohji Fukano.
The public works project started today is part of an agreement, known as a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA), between the council and the developers.
The works include:
- Construction of two observation decks within River Park adjacent to the Parramatta River
- Construction of a children’s playground within Halvorsen Park
- Landscaping and embellishment works within the Pocket Parks
- Resurfacing, kerb and guttering, construction of a traffic island, drainage works and line marking of George Kendall Riverside Car Park
- Pedestrian lighting between the George Kendall Riverside Car Park and Parramatta River along an existing shared path within the park
PAYCE General Manager Dominic Sullivan said the work would provide improved community amenities for not only residents but the broader community.
“Our goal is to not just build very liveable apartments, but to develop new communities and improving local infrastructure and facilities is a very important element of that objective,” he said.
“This location on the Parramatta River offers a stunning lifestyle and it is important that residents and the public can enjoy everything it has to offer.
“Parramatta City Council has shown a great willingness to negotiate an outcome that is a win for the local community and the project.”
Excavation work ready for the construction of nine buildings on the site has been completed.
The project is due to be completed by the end of the next year.
