Sunday’s PAYCE Shark Island Swim at Cronulla is shaping up to be another great event with a strong field already registered for the annual swim. The event is Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club’s main fundraiser for the year and has been held each year since 1987.
This year, the Shark Island Swim and the shorter Cronulla Beach Fun Swim have a new naming sponsor, PAYCE, one of Australia’s leading property developers and property investment companies. PAYCE’s Managing Director, Brian Boyd said his company was proud and excited to be associated with the event.
The PAYCE Shark Island swim is held over 2.3 kilometres and the winner in both the male and female category will each take home a $1000 prize. Male swimmers include Mitchell Rofe, Chris Allum, Kazimir Boskovic and Mark Simpson. The favourites for the $1,000 first place female prize include Shivaun Street, Taylar Puskaric and Jessica Lauricella. Proving you are never too old to participate, 85 year-old Georgene McKenzie-Hicks has also registered for the race.
Brian Boyd says the PAYCE Shark Island swim event has a great tradition and he welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the local community and lend support to Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club’s annual fund raiser. ‘’I hope the weather is kind and I wish all the entrants a safe and enjoyable swim,” he said.
PAYCE is no stranger to supporting community events in the Shire, having sponsored the Carols by Candlelight in Kareela last year and also the inaugural Endless Summer Festival of the PAYCE Baywatch Area at Cronulla.
