11 December 2015

An exciting program of local talent and special guests is expected to attract a record crowd to the annual Carols in the Wetlands event in Riverwood’s Salt Pan Creek Reserve on Friday, 11 December 2015 after last year’s event attracted over 500 families and friends.

This year there will be a number of surprise guest appearances and the inaugural performance of the Riverwood Community Choir.

PAYCE Managing Director, Brian Boyd said PAYCE was pleased to join with many of its community partners in helping to bring the annual event to the community of Riverwood and surrounding districts for the fifth consecutive year.

“Our Washington Park residential project in Riverwood North has opened the door to many opportunities for local people to build a stronger community and with more residents now settled into their new Washington Park apartments during the year, I’m sure many will welcome the opportunity to join in to celebrate the festive season,” he said.

“Now in its fifth year, the event has been a great success and with its growing popularity year by year, the community spirit in Riverwood continues to go from strength to strength.”

PAYCE General Manager, Dominic Sullivan said each year the Carols get bigger and better.

“PAYCE was a founding sponsor when this event was first held and it has been our great pleasure to give it our support each year and to watch it grow,” he said.

“The people of Riverwood demonstrate a great sense of community spirit throughout the year and the Carols is an eagerly awaited occasion to get together in the spirit of Christmas and close off the year on a high note.

“It’s wonderful to see so many families and friends coming together and enjoying themselves in such a unique setting,” he said.

Once again, the Carols in the Wetlands will be hosted by the former NSW Premier, the Hon Morris Iemma, a strong supporter of local community events.

There will be performances by students from Riverwood Public School and Hannans Road Public School and the first appearance by the recently formed Riverwood Community Choir. The choir has been working hard in a number of workshops and rehearsals with well-known choirmaster, James Paul, best known for his involvement with the Sydney Street Choir. The Sydney Street Choir will make a special guest appearance on the night.

Also on the program will be local well-known resident and strong supporter of the Carols, Janeen Horne, who will perform two songs. Ms Horne won Canterbury City Council’s 2015 Citizen of the Year Award for raising community awareness around disability issues over many years and for outstanding community service.

Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without a visit by the big man in the red suit, who will arrive and join in the festivities, as he does every year.

The 2015 Carols in the Wetlands is supported by PAYCE, Canterbury City Council, YMCA, Club Rivers and the Riverwood Community Centre.
