COMPETITORS PREPARE FOR 2016 PAYCE CRONULLA SHARK ISLAND FUNDRAISING SWIM

Shark Island Swim held annually since 1987.
Funds raised from the events, which have been held annually since 1987, are the main fundraising drive for the year, for the Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club.
This Sunday sees the return of the PAYCE Shark Island and Beach Fun Swimming events at Cronulla Beach, and with many of those taking part having used the great summer weather to train, it promises to be an exciting and fun filled event.
Brian Boyd : Third Year of PAYCE Support
PAYCE, one of the country's leading property developers and investment companies, has thrown the full weight of its support behind the event for the third year running.
Brian Boyd, PAYCE's Managing Director, said the company was extremely excited and pleased to be associated with the fundraiser as part of a five year sponsorship deal.
The PAYCE Cronulla Shark Island Swim is 2.3 km in length and offers a $1000 prize to the winners of the male and female events.
The event is preceded by the PAYCE Cronulla Fun Swim, a 1 km triangular course just off Cronulla beach.
Popular Swim Event
Dominic Sullivan, PAYCE's General Manager, said that the Shark Island Swim is one of the best known and most popular swimming events on the calendar.
"The event is a fantastic fun filled day out for all the family and their friends. The large group of volunteers and officials should be congratulated for managing and organising such a fabulous event," he said.
"Since 1978, PAYCE has been helping to create healthy and vibrant communities, and our sponsorship of events like these is a great opportunity for us to give something back to the local community."
Champions Aim For Hat-trick
It remains to be seen if Jesse Goodyear and Taylar Puskaric, winners of the male and female categories of the Shark Island Swim for the past two years, can manage a hat-trick by repeating their fabulous performances at the event on Sunday.
Veteran Swimmers Support Event
Georgene McKenzie-Hicks, another regular competitor in the Shark Island Swim, reaches the age of 89 this year. She says she is looking forward to putting in a good performance at the event. Georgene exercises every day, despite suffering a shoulder injury two years ago, and still records respectable times, setting her personal best at last year's event.
"On Australia Day this year, I swam in Sydney Harbour, and more recently in the Rainbow Club's fundraiser for disabled young people at Malabar. In addition to my regular twice weekly swim, I also walk or cycle along the Botany Bay foreshore every single day," she said.
"I cannot wait to compete next year in the New Zealand World Masters Games, in the 90 and over division!"
A Contribution to the Community - Brian Boyd
Brian Boyd said it is a great pleasure for PAYCE to be able to make a contribution to the local community, and give its support to Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club's annual fundraising efforts, via the Cronulla Shark Island Swim.

Those wanting to take part in the swim events can register online at www.sharkislandswim.com.au, or on the day, between 7.30 am - 10 am for the Shark Island Swim, and 7.30 am - 9.00 am for the Fun Swim.
The PAYCE Cronulla Beach Swim begins at 9.30 am, and the PAYCE Shark Island Swim will commence one hour later.
