Jane Flemming on hand to warm up competitors for this year's Brooks PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf Fun Run and Walk.
One of Australia's best-known Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games track and field athletes, Jane Flemming, will be on hand to motivate and warm up competitors prior to the start of this year's Brooks PAYCE Sutherland 2 Surf Fun Run and Walk.
Wanda Surf Life Saving Club and the event's major co-sponsor, PAYCE, have announced former heptathlete, Jane Flemming, a dual Olympian and a Commonwealth gold and silver medallist will lead a free warm up session, with Live Life Get Active trainers, to suit all skill and fitness levels.
Ms Flemming, a director of Live Life Get Active, the organisation that conducts a number of free community get-fit classes in the Shire in partnership with Sutherland Shire Council and with the support of PAYCE at the Sylvania camp, said she welcomed the opportunity to help competitors tackle the 11 kilometre course.
"I'm very pleased to have been invited by PAYCE to come along a make a contribution to building a fitter, healthy and happier community in the Shire," she said.
"It's very important that people warm up correctly prior to any race or run in order to minimise injuries or discomfort during or after the event. "It is not just what you do in warming up, but how you do it and in what order.
"Whether you are a beginner or an advanced athlete, a proper warm up routine will pay off and lessen the chance of pulling a muscle or similar injury and aid in a quick recovery after crossing the finish line."
"In addition, anyone already attending our free Live Life Get Active classes in Kurnell and Menai, will receive expert advice from our trainers on how best to prepare for the Sutherland 2 Surf event through the Walk to Run class held on Tuesday (10.00am at Menai and 5.15 pm at Kurnell). New members are welcome to come on board by contacting us on our website, www.livelifegetactive.com, where they will find all the details on how to join," she said.
